First day of Summer!

Ok, time needs to slow down a bit. Spring is behind us and I think summer will speed by much too quickly. I've been keeping busy with the yard and garden and coming close to being finished with painting mom's house. DH has found a bit of energy and has taken interest in organizing his barn. Every now and then he will bring me a rediscovered gift such as a restrung cast off wind chime which I immediately find a home for in the garden, or a newly sharpened garden shear. HE has taken a few motorcycle rides which I am happy to see. Every little activity builds strength so I keep encouraging him to keep busy when he feels up to it.
In between the household chores, I am taking a little time to enjoy life.

The spring rains have kept things blooming...I picked this bouquet from the garden for lunch with mom.
It was a warm day but we enjoyed the first garden lunch of the season together. Her requested crab salad with water crackers and cucumbers, pastries, pina' colada for her, strawberry daiquiri for me.

I even took time to attend Antiques on the bluff in St. Joe with my bud Leslie. There were so many things I would have bought if I had a second home...or cottage. It was a beautiful morning.

As for the painting, the porch and decks were dark green and now they lightened up with a fresh coat of Simply Sage. I like it so much better. I spend most evenings out there swinging (sometimes with wine) and just winding down after a busy day.

The "Ghost mirror" was a find from Antiques on the bluff.
Evenings on the porch have been so relaxing.

I love my bike but was bored with it so I did a little makeover. This is the before pic.
This is after lots of browsing Pinterest.... taping off and sanding...

A soft shabby blue paint called "Cove" did the trick.

I even got in some beach strolls...some sunny.....
some not so much....

but always treasures to be found.

Last week I found a box of my vintage laces I had organized and misplaced last year. (The laces on the board leaning against wall) I found them in a box neatly placed on cards at the bottom of my stacked boxes in the studio. So much for organizing, but a happy find.
I did get in some stitching in the garden too.

A couple weeks ago I took a drive to St. Joe with mom and we found ourselves having lunch by the water as we watched an elderly gentleman reel in some pretty large fish.It reminded me of dad and how he loved to fish.

Although the color bursts come and go in my garden, I enjoy it as much as possible, even at night.

So that pretty much sums up my spring. The past week and the week ahead have and will be hot, so I work around the heat because I can no longer handle it. Early morning garden watering and mowing and evening porch swinging will be all I'm up to these hot and humid days.
Enjoy your days.

Happy first day of summer!

Spring rain, lilacs, blooms

Well, I believe Spring is has been raining a lot, but that just means more blossoms! I have been busy painting the deck and porches, transplanting, mulching, etc...
I feel like I am progressing, just not very quickly. I am trying to keep in mind that every little task behind me is good.

With all this rain, I had remembered a photo of my son at age three. He loved to play after a big rain. This was taken at our first home in the country.
If there was a puddle around, Ed would find it! I must admit that if I were his age, I would be doing the same thing, lol.

The garden is at that stage where the fern are a third way unfurling, the crab apple, Dogwood, Quince and lilac blossoms are showing themselves beautifully. This time of year, when I cut my first lilac bouquet, it is bittersweet. My mother in law always received my first lilac cuttings of the season. This year I cut the darker purple ones too although they don't smell as nice as the old fashioned lighter kind. I will take a garden walk soon and share pics.
I surprised mom with a new covered porch swing for Mother's day. I'm hoping that it will entice her outside in the fresh air more often. She said after I left she decided to lay on it and she was lulled to sleep. They are comfortable.

I took advantage of the rainy day and finished another CQ project digest. This one is on making a sun visor that slips onto your glasses. You can slip it into your purse when its not needed. I'm going to make them in a variety of colors. Great for beach combing.
Those visors that clamp on your head give me a headache, and the ones with the adjustable band catch my hair, so this version is perfect for me. I hope you try one...or more. If you do, I'd love to see it.

I have a few errands to run so I'm off for now. Thanks for stopping by and have a great evening! Stay dry if its raining where you are.

A new digest, Sun Visor!

Just in time for sunny weather, a crazy quilted sun visor Digest. You can purchase here
This visor slips onto any eyeglass/sunglass to keep your vision shaded. Easy project, pattern in digest. Great gift idea.

Hello friends

Life has been busy at times, and also coasting along. Spring is trying its best to arrive and stay. Yesterday was beautiful but I didn't get to enjoy it fully. Today is already gorgeous and I just came in to grab a bite and sit a while before tackling the weeding in the front garden. I want to dig up the snow on the mountain before it grows and takes over the Rose Campanula.
I'm looking forward to the sweet scent of the lilacs. They are just getting leaves, so it will be a while yet. It seems like this spring is in slow motion but at least the blooms are ahead instead of behind me.

There are so many tasks to do this year. Mulching, power washing and painting deck, porch, porch swing and sidewalks. Freshening up house trim and trellises. I am usually ready to go but it feels overwhelming this year. It will get done though, once I start it will all fall into place I'm sure.

Mom has cabin fever and wants a B&B trip, I can't blame her. I know she wishes she still drove. Freedom to come and go as you please is something we should never take for granted. I did get her out to a movie on Thursday. It was a nice outing but I know she needs more. I want to keep her moving, not cooped up in the house.

I've spoken to my brother and am going to plan a larger garden with him at his home. Yes, like I need another activity, lol. I gave up veg gardening years ago but want to get back into it and enjoy organic home grown veggies again. They seem to taste sweeter, and actually have flavor. Its impossible to buy a tomato that has any flavor anymore. Sad but true. It will also encourage mom to take a little walk across the street and check out the progress. I've got several garden plans, hopefully my brother agrees with some of them as he will be spending more time tending it than I will.
I do want a variety of lettuces like Ellen Eddy grew. She had a pretty little garden by the studio and before I left she would pick a salad for me to take home and enjoy. The multi colored delicate lettuces were so tender and fresh.

I could write a bit more but the sun is shining and enticing me to enjoy the outdoors, so I will continue another day. Enjoy today!
